The Department of Bioengineering in the U.A. Whitaker College of Engineering at Florida Gulf Coast University has an opening for a new faculty member in Bioengineering at the Assistant Professor level to begin in January 2019. Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) is a public, comprehensive university situated within 760 acres of beautiful preserve in Southwest Florida. FGCU offers a wide range of undergraduate programs (including ABET accredited engineering degrees in Bioengineering, Civil, Environmental and Software Engineering), as well as selected graduate degree programs, including an M.S. Engineering degree program. Opened in the fall of 1997, the university is in the enviable position of having all new facilities that have been especially designed and built for a campus of the 21st century. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: An earned Doctorate from a regionally accredited institution in Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related field of engineering.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preferred areas of expertise include neural engineering, medical devices (including robotics), bio-manufacturing and/or engineering design. A rank-appropriate record of educational and/or scientific publication in scholarly journals and/or industrial experience pertinent to the areas of interest listed above is desirable. Successful candidates must be able to teach new and/or existing courses in bioengineering, as well as in selected general engineering topics. Additionally, candidates should possess skills for working in a rapidly developing regional comprehensive university with a focus on fostering of an active-learning and service-oriented student environment.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The U.A. Whitaker College of Engineering is dedicated to quality education, research, and service. All faculty are expected to be excellent teachers who are committed to innovative delivery of instruction that results in improved student learning; to using educational technology effectively; to engaging in scholarly and service activities; and to engaging in a continuous and outcomes-based assessment process. Bioengineering faculty are responsible for effectively teaching selected lower-level interdisciplinary engineering courses as well as more advanced courses directly related to their specific area of expertise. In scholarship, Bioengineering faculty must demonstrate successful productivity in scientific, engineering and/or educational scholarship over time. Bioengineering faculty members must be willing to perform service within the University as well as within their professional community and must work closely with the Department Chair and other faculty on assessment and evaluation tasks necessary to maintain program ABET accreditation.
