Department of Mechanical Engineering
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Howard University invites applications for an anticipated tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level. Candidates should hold an earned doctoral degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related discipline and are expected to teach at the graduate and undergraduate levels and build and maintain strong funded research programs.

The position is for candidates with academic preparation in the Thermal/Fluid Sciences and expertise in areas related to CAE/CFD research and applications in the design of Thermal/Fluid systems. The ideal candidate is expected to not only teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the department but to also develop externally funded research projects in emerging areas such as ML and AI augmented CAE/CFD, Multiphysics and multiscale modelling, biofluid dynamics, CFD/CAE in advanced manufacturing processes, energy conversion and utilization in the built environment. Preference will be given to candidates with interdisciplinary and/or multidisciplinary interest, effective and varied familiarity with CAE/CFD related simulation and design engineering software, and strong interest in the development of research and experimental facilities in rapidly emerging areas.

The College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA) is one of Howard University’s 14 schools and colleges. The CEA is home to five academic departments offering accredited undergraduate degree programs and graduate degree programs. The departments include Architecture, Chemical Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and Mechanical Engineering.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers studies leading to the Bachelor of Science, Master of Engineering (M.Eng.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees in Mechanical Engineering. The M.Eng. and Ph.D. programs also include interdisciplinary degrees in Atmospheric Science and Materials Science. The department has a few research laboratories which support the academic and research endeavors of the discipline.
