Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering

The School of Engineering at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan campus, invites applications for a Lecturer position in mechanical engineering. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2022 for a 3-year term with the possibility of renewal thereafter.

The position has responsibilities in teaching and service and hiring decisions will be made based on the candidate’s potential to achieve excellence in these areas. Location

UBC’s Okanagan campus is situated in Kelowna on the ancestral, traditional, and unceded territory of the Syilx Okanagan people who continue their thousands of years of stewardship today. Position

Mechanical Engineering is the School’s oldest and well-established undergraduate program and strengthens UBC’s impact on the evolving world of advanced engineering.

We are seeking applicants whose teaching interests are in the core subjects of the mechanical engineering including but not limited to thermodynamics and fluid mechanics, advanced manufacturing processes, computer-aided design/engineering/manufacturing (CAD/CAE/CAM), mechanical analysis and simulation, fabrication and prototyping, advanced quality systems and statistical process control, metal alloys’ manufacturing, forming, and joining.

Eligibility and duties

Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or Ph.D. in a related field. The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • teach existing engineering design courses within the common first year of engineering as well as higher-level courses within the Mechanical Engineering Program and other subjects related to the applicant’s area of expertise, and
  • provide service to the University and the community.

The successful candidate is expected to be registered, or be eligible to register as a Professional Engineer, with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (www.egbc.ca).
