The School of Architecture in the University of Kentucky College of Design seeks applicants for Assistant Professor in the Regular Title Series. The successful candidate will teach at the undergraduate and/or graduate level a writing-intensive history and theory lecture course in Modern and Contemporary Architecture, as well as seminars and design studios. The appointment comes with start-up support to launch a research program that produces scholarly or creative output of national and international standing, as well as an expectation of service to the school, college, university, profession, and community.

This position provides the opportunity to teach motivated students in a program committed to the history and theory of architecture, design innovation and experimentation, and building technology and fabrication. Teaching experience in modern and contemporary architecture history and theory is required. Experience with teaching writing is recommended as is experience with teaching design studio. Applicants with demonstrated passion for and innovative ideas about preparing students for the future will be prioritized. The successful candidate will also possess an enthusiastic desire to explore, define, and expand their design research agenda, as the position provides the opportunity to share research in a public lecture to college and professional partners.

Applicants should have an earned Ph.D. in Architectural History and Theory. A completed terminal degree in the field (M.Arch) is required. A B.Arch may be considered as a substitution for the terminal degree requirement; however, Provost approval is required for non-terminally degreed candidates. Application materials should demonstrate a committed interest in a knowledge of modern architectural history and theory, as well as a comprehensive understanding of current architectural practices and contemporary modes of design and production.

The selected candidate will be appointed to a full-time tenure-track position comes with a 9-month appointment in the School of Architecture and an anticipated start date of August 15, 2025. Salary is competitive and based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience. A typical distribution of effort (DOE) for this position includes 6 credit hours of studio and 6 credit hours of lecture/seminar courses per semester (50-62.5% DOE), with 30-40% DOE dedicated to research efforts, and the remainder to service commitments.

About the School of Architecture
As the Commonwealth of Kentucky’s sole NAAB accredited Architecture program, UK offers a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture, as well as two- and three-year Master of Architecture programs. Established in 1965, the School of Architecture today employs 30 full and part-time faculty, who teach over 300 graduate and undergraduate students.
