The Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering, in the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary, is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Sustainable Hydrogen Technologies. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2021.

The successful applicant will align with the University of Calgary’s new Growth Through Focus strategic vision and support the University’s academic and research plans as well as its Indigenous, mental health, internationalization, and sustainability strategies.

The incumbent will be a new or emerging scholar with potential for an original, creative, innovative and forward-looking research program, with demonstrated background or excellence in sustainable hydrogen technology engineering.

This will be evidenced by high-quality scholarly output, and other impacts, that demonstrate the potential to lead independent research, deliver peer-evaluated publications, secure external research funding, actively engage with industry, and excel at graduate student supervision.

Successful candidates must demonstrate a strong background with research expertise in energy research and in particular, sustainable hydrogen technologies, and an ability to work as part of highly-collaborative research teams, and preferably have participated in collaborative research with academic and industry partners at sub-national, national or international levels.

Specialization and engineering expertise are required in one or more of the following areas:

  • Hydrogen Production and Separation
  • Hydrogen Storage
  • Hydrogen Transportation
  • Hydrogen End Use

The incumbent will develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses on topics related to chemical engineering and clean energy technologies. They will actively contribute to teaching, curriculum development, graduate student supervision and mentoring, and are expected to provide service in support of the Department, School, University and profession. As a member of the University of Calgary community, the incumbent will support, and contribute to, equity, diversity and inclusion and a positive working and learning environment.

To be eligible for consideration candidates must hold a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering (or equivalent Engineering degree) and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline, a strong research track record, and evidence of excellence in teaching. Industrial experience is an asset. Candidates should have strong oral and written English communication skills. All candidates must hold or be eligible for registration as a professional engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) https://www.apega.ca/.
