The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at South Dakota Mines is seeking to fill a tenure track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level related to Water Resources Engineering and a position at the Assistant or Associate level related to Geotechnical Engineering. An earned doctorate in Civil Engineering, or a closely related discipline, and evidence in teaching and research excellence are required. We seek candidates who will establish a strong externally funded research program, contribute to the CEE PhD program, and have the ability to teach courses related to water resource engineering or geotechnical engineering at both the undergraduate and graduate levels as well as other fundamental civil engineering courses. The positions have dual focus of teaching and research, and the candidates will be expected to be teacher-scholars. The desired start date for the position is August 15, 2023.

The department and campus have expertise in geotechnical earthquake engineering, geoenvironmental engineering, foundation design, rock mechanics, landslides and slope stability, remote sensing and geomatics, and biogeotechnics. We are seeking a new faculty member who can complement these areas of strength with particular interest in those who have the breadth of geotechnical expertise and depth of geotechnical knowledge to work effectively on and eventually lead transdisciplinary research teams.

The department and campus have deep expertise in water treatment, waste-water treatment, disinfection byproducts, sustainability, groundwater, vadose zone modeling and hydrology. We are seeking a new faculty member who can complement these areas of strength by having skills and expertise in hydraulic systems, sediment transport, hydro-informatics or other areas of data-driven or AI-enabled water resources research, and who can work effectively on and eventually lead transdisciplinary research teams. Experience in industry or government as a practicing water resources engineer is also beneficial.
