The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering (CEE) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK), invites applications for a lecturer to teach undergraduate civil engineering materials, soils, and structures laboratory courses. The position will also manage the soil and materials laboratory facilities. Additional responsibilities will depend on the abilities and interests of the selected candidate, and may include teaching construction courses or supporting funded research in the soils, materials, and structural engineering areas. The position will be filled as soon as possible. Salary is nationally competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is located in the state-of-the-art John D. Tickle Engineering Building. The full-time faculty of the department consists of 22 tenure-line faculty and three lecturers. It offers baccalaureate, masters, and Ph.D. degrees with concentrations in environmental engineering, water resources, structures, construction, transportation, geotechnical and infrastructure materials, and public works. The successful candidate will be dedicated to enhancing the quality of the department’s teaching and research missions.
Earned MS in Civil/Environmental Engineering or closely related field
Knowledge of civil engineering field and laboratory testing procedures used in civil engineering practice and research
Ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot civil engineering field and laboratory test equipment
Ability to demonstrate exceptional teaching ability at the undergraduate level
Must be eligible to work in the US.
Experience in the construction industry
Registration as a professional engineer or a desire to pursue registration (passing FE)
Earned PhD in Civil Engineering or closely related field
Experience with electronic data acquisition and control systems
Knowledge of LabView
Use of servo-hydraulic mechanical testing systems
Evidence of conference and journal publications
Teach the general civil engineering, geotechnical, and structures undergraduate laboratories totaling 12 to 16 contact hours per week.
Manage team of up to four teaching assistants
Manage soil and materials laboratories including equipment maintenance, scheduling, training, research support, and safety oversight.
Full engagement with the students, faculty, and programs of the department through participation in faculty meetings and committees, program development, student extracurricular activities, etc.
