Opportunity

The Systems Engineering Department at ÉTS is seeking a Professor who specializes in Robotic Process Automation. The selected candidate’s research and teaching activities will be added to existing activities, and will contribute to meeting challenges related to the issue of improving the productivity of companies. The ideal candidate possesses a basic knowledge of the field of Operations and Logistics Engineering, along with digital business. Depending on their areas of expertise and research interests, the incumbent may join the team at the Numérix Laboratory and take part in its research activities.

Robotic Process Automation (RPA) is one of the options for mitigating the labour shortage and increasing the productivity of companies. The ideal candidate must possess recognized expertise in RPA, both in terms of research and involvement in implementation (e.g.: using Microsoft, Blue Prism, Automation Anywhere or SAP tools). All areas of application will be considered, including financial transactions, integrated logistic chains, monitoring of phase changes and all other transactional processes.

The incumbent is expected to develop a research program related to RPA, and to develop courses in connection with this field. In addition to specializing in RPA, the incumbent should also possess a certain degree of expertise with various business management systems (e.g.: CRM, ERP, MES, WMS, PLM, etc.) and information technologies, among others, in order to properly compare RPA-type applications to API integration. In a broader sense, the incumbent is expected to possess the expertise required to justify the implementation of these systems from an economic perspective and to effectively manage the technological changes.

 

Description of the position 

Working as part of a dynamic research team, the incumbent will assume the following responsibilities:

  • Teach at all three university levels in fields related to Operations and Logistics Engineering;
  • Supervise graduate and post-graduate students;
  • Submit applications for financing and grants, primarily from Québec, Canadian or international government bodies, industrial organizations, municipalities and foundations;
  • Conduct subsidized or contract-based research projects in partnership with industry and workplaces;
  • Develop research programs;
  • Publish scientific articles.

 Requirements

  • Hold a Doctorate (PhD) in Engineering in a related field (e.g.: Operations and Logistics Engineering, Software Engineering, IT Engineering or Automated Manufacturing Engineering);
  • Be a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) or be eligible to join the OIQ and undertake the necessary steps to become a member before submitting an application for full professorship;
  • Have experience in conducting research in collaboration with industry or solid experience in industrial R&D;
  • Demonstrate excellent skills related to training highly-qualified personnel through research projects and teaching;
  • Be proficient in French (oral and written), in compliance with the ÉTS Language Policy (in French), or demonstrate a willingness to learn French and enter into a francization process with the support of ÉTS.

Summer 2023, or as soon as possible.

This is a tenure-track position. The process and benefits will be determined in accordance with the applicable collective agreement.
