The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) at the University of Iowa invites applications and nominations for an instructional track faculty position at all ranks (Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Instruction or Practice) in the general area of applied operations research, manufacturing systems, engineering management, and data science to begin in the fall semester of 2025. Please refer to the Operations Manual for detailed qualifications for each specific rank of instructional track faculty appointments. This position is a full-time academic year appointment and includes an initial three-year contract with the possibility of renewal. Instructional Track Faculty play an important role in advancing the teaching excellence of the College of Engineering. Promotion and advancement opportunities are available for instructional track faculty positions.

Candidates must be committed to excellence in teaching at every level in the ISE curriculum. Essential qualifications include evidence of a strong ability to integrate effective and impactful teaching methodologies, a passion for education in the general areas of industrial engineering, excellent communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to foster a welcoming and respectful environment. Prior teaching or professional experience in applied operations research, manufacturing systems, engineering management, and data science is desirable. 

The successful candidate is expected to be an engaging and effective teacher and be willing to engage in online course development and online teaching. Position responsibilities include classroom teaching of courses and seminars, undergraduate student advising, departmental and collegial services related to education, and collaborating with other faculty on innovative teaching methods and curricular advances. The salary and work expectations are based on the University’s academic year.

Education Requirement:

  • PhD or equivalent in industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, business analytics or related field

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Teaching or professional experience in the general area of applied operations research, manufacturing systems, engineering management, and data science
  • Ability to incorporate effective and impactful teaching methodologies as evidenced in teaching statement, teaching evaluation, and/or participation in professional development workshops related to teaching
  • Experience in industry and/or online/remote curriculum development is not required but encouraged
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and inspire students while creating a welcoming and respectful environment.
