The Applied Fluids Research Group (AFRG) at Auburn University has an immediate opening for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the area of Experimental Fluid Mechanics. The research group led by Dr. Vrishank Raghav has multidisciplinary research interests ranging from aerospace, biomedical, bio-inspired and wind engineering with currently funded projects related to the aerodynamics of helicopters, gust interactions in bird flight, and wind energy. Biomedical engineering interests include cardiovascular devices and diseases, and diagnosis of lung disease.

Initially, the post-doc will primarily assist in the development and fabrication of a novel wind energy device. The postdoc will be responsible to oversee this project to completion with the assistance of graduate and undergraduate students. The post-doc will also be highly encouraged to contribute and/or participate in other ongoing projects in the laboratory including in the fields of bio-inspired and biomedical engineering. The candidate will have opportunities to collaborate with Advanced Flow Diagnostics Laboratory (AFDL) directed by Dr. Brian Thurow in the application of plenoptic camera based particle image velocimetry (PIV) in the above research topics.

Applicants must have a doctoral degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline and must have an outstanding academic record. The successful candidate will have a fundamental knowledge of fluid dynamics, experience in experimental fluid mechanics, and application of experimental diagnostic techniques including PIV. Prior experience in fluid mechanics of wind energy devices is strongly desired, but not required. In addition, knowledge of software such as SOLIDWORKS (CAD), LabVIEW, Tecplot, MATLAB, and/or C/C++ is desired. The candidate should also possess strong oral and written communication skills and is expected to present at international conferences and publish in peer-reviewed journals.

The position is anticipated to be a one year appointment, extendable up to one more year based on performance, for a total of two years.
