JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY The Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) Department of Mechanical & Materials Engineering invites applications for a part-time research faculty position. The individual selected for the position will contribute to WPI's research mission though collaborative and independent research in high-temperature materials and materials processing. The successful candidate will lead and support the development of new projects, proposals and teams, working with a large, diverse team of researchers from undergraduates to postdocs, other WPI faculty and groups, and outside collaborators, and to publish and present the results of this work.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Qualifications include an earned PhD in Mechanical or Materials Engineering or a related field, plus 15 years of related experience, with specific experience in designing, developing, and scaling high-temperature materials processing systems. Experience with a diverse variety of entities, including large and small businesses, government, and academia is highly valued.
This job requires a mix of computational and experimental work. The experimental work is on-site in the laboratory at WPI. Experience with safe, effective research and development with high-temperature materials processing systems is required.
The Mechanical and Materials Engineering Department at WPI (https://www.wpi.edu/academics/departments/mechanical-materials-engineering) has 31 tenured and tenure-track faculty and 5 full-time teaching faculty and offers undergraduate degrees in mechanical engineering to over 900 students. The department offers graduate degrees in mechanical engineering, materials science and engineering, and manufacturing engineering to over
250 graduate students. The department's annual externally sponsored research expenditures have exceeded $13.5M.
