Location: Arizona State University – Polytechnic Campus

The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University (ASU) and The Polytechnic School (TPS) seeks applicants for a faculty position in automotive and hybrid systems integration. Appointment will be at Professor of Practice rank commensurate with the candidate’s experience and accomplishments, beginning August 2020. This position is non-tenure track. It is anticipated that the contract will be renewed annually subject to satisfactory performance and the needs of the unit.

The Polytechnic School, one of six schools in the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering, has an energetic engineering community. To advance this area, we will look for applicants who complement our ability to expand our capabilities in automotive-related system design and integration with focused applications in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV), Internal Combustions Engines (ICE) powertrain and chassis systems. Applicants for this position shall have extensive background in the automotive industry. Specific areas of interest include but are not limited to advanced hybrid powertrain modeling, design and control; Electric Vehicle (EV); vehicle dynamics and its control. In addition, applicant shall partner in the development of professional education courses and modules in the automotive engineering areas. Primary responsibility will include teaching core undergraduate engineering courses including ground vehicle dynamics, vehicle powertrain and vehicle thermal systems, mentor students in automotive related capstone and entrepreneurship projects, develop a leadership role creating on-line courses and develop a leadership role in universal learning. In addition, successful candidate will participate in the development and operation of new outreach and engagement activities between faculty, students and industry.

The School seeks candidates who have demonstrated a record of excellence in teaching that incorporates active learning, will contribute to our academic programs, promote transdisciplinary teaching, and help the University to achieve its aspirations, including enabling student success, transforming society, and valuing entrepreneurship. Faculty members in the Fulton Schools of Engineering are expected to adopt effective pedagogical practices in the development and delivery of graduate and undergraduate courses.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned PhD degree in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field by the time of appointment
  • Commitment to teaching excellence as appropriate to the candidate’s rank

Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated commitment to a collaborative, transdisciplinary approach to teaching
  • Evidence of teaching excellence
