About the Position:
The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering invites applications for an Instructor l. The successful candidate will have expertise in any area of Aerospace Engineering and will be a licensed engineer or eligible for licensure. The target start date is January 1, 2021. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
The successful candidate will have a Masters or Doctorate degree in Engineering or a related field, expertise and experience in the engineering profession, and a strong commitment to teaching.
We encourage applications from candidates from groups underrepresented in engineering and/or with experience in mentoring students from such groups.
About the Academic Unit:
At the Bachelor’s level, the Department offers degrees in Mechanical, Aerospace, Biomedical and Mechanical, and Sustainable and Renewable Energy Engineering. At the Master’s level, the Department offers degrees in Mechanical, Aerospace, Materials, Biomedical, and Sustainable Energy Engineering. At the Ph.D. level, the Department offers degrees in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.
The Department’s substantial strength in aerospace engineering stems from a very long history of aerospace education and research. The size and breadth of the Department’s faculty complement with research expertise in aerospace places Carleton amongst the leading Canadian academic institutions, and the Department’s academic programs in aerospace rank amongst the largest in Canada.

The successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and a Master’s or PhD in engineering or a related field. They must also have a commitment to teaching and to the engineering profession. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and deliver engaging courses in undergraduate aerospace engineering courses. Teaching experience, or evidence of a commitment to teaching, will be an asset. Direct experience working in the engineering profession is also an asset, but not required. Membership in a Canadian professional engineering association is required at the time of appointment or within two years of appointment.
