Tulane University invites applications for two full-time faculty positions in mechanical engineering: 1) a tenure track Assistant Professor and 2) a Professor of Practice, both in the Department of Physics and Engineering Physics. Our department is pursuing interdisciplinary excellence through integrating physics and core engineering disciplines. We seek to substantially grow our mechanical engineering program in coming years, including the launch of a minor in Mechanical Engineering alongside our established Engineering Physics undergraduate major and Materials Physics & Engineering PhD program. As a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU), Tulane is committed to research and education at the highest levels.
1) For the tenure track Assistant Professor position, preference will be given to applicants with a strong record of experimental mechanical engineering research in areas such as, but not limited to: energy, manufacturing, materials, mechanics, and robotics. We prioritize interdisciplinary research and teaching with other faculty in our School of Science and Engineering, as well as other Schools at Tulane. The new faculty member will have the opportunity to participate in the expansion of core user facilities in the new Paul Hall, including a new Tulane Micro/Nanofabrication Facility. Applicants must have a doctorate in mechanical engineering or a related field, postdoctoral or comparable experience, demonstrated success in research, and a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentorship. The position will include a competitive salary and startup package. Applicants should submit a cover letter, CV, a research plan, a statement of teaching philosophy, and contact information for three references to: http://apply.interfolio.com/131973 .
2) The Professor of Practice (PoP) is a non-tenured full time academic year (nine month) teaching position (3,3 load) with a renewable 3-year appointment. It carries a competitive salary and benefits commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications. Faculty promoted to Senior PoP serve renewable 5-year terms. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in energy, manufacturing, materials, mechanics, or robotics. Applicants must possess a doctorate in mechanical engineering or a related field and a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentorship. Postdoctoral or industry experience is preferred.
