Our system engineering department:

The Systems Engineering Department at ÉTS offers multidisciplinary study programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels that are tailored to the industrial needs regarding the optimization of operations and services, organization work, digital transformation, computerization of production systems and industrial automatization. Courses are focused on integrating computer and technological systems using mechanics, electronics and control, computer science and industrial engineering.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The department is recruiting a professor of intelligent systems engineering. The desired person must have general knowledge of systems engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science related to artificial intelligence.

Your expertise should be oriented towards one or more of the following fields of research:

  • Machine Learning;
  • Deep Neural Networks;
  • Vision-Language Models
  • Natural Language Processing;
  • Multimodal Large Language Models
  • Data Science;
  • Reinforcement Learning;
  • Intelligent and Autonomous Systems;
  • Computer Vision;
  • Signal Processing;
  • Pattern Recognition.

You must demonstrate strong expertise in developing large language models (LLM), vision-language models (VLM), multimodal learning, and deep transformer models.

You could join the Laboratoire d’imagerie, de vision et d’intelligence artificielle (LIVIA) depending on your expertise and research interests. Its mission is to develop cutting-edge artificial intelligence techniques to solve complex problems related to medical imaging, document analysis, biometrics, affective computing, health, video analysis, etc.

Job Description:

As part of the research team, selected candidates will:

  • Teach and develop courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in fields related to systems engineering, electrical engineering and computer science;
  • Mentor graduate students;
  • Carry out funded, potentially interdisciplinary research projects with local, national and international partners;
  • Develop a research program;
  • Publish scientific articles;
  • Complete grant applications, particularly those for NSERC, FQRNT, and MITACS.

 Requirements

  • Hold or be about to obtain a Doctorate (PhD) in Engineering in a relevant field for this position;
  • Be a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) or be eligible to join the OIQ and undertake the necessary steps to become a member before submitting an application for full professorship;
  • Have experience in conducting research in collaboration with industry or solid experience in industrial R&D;
  • Demonstrate excellent skills related to training highly qualified personnel through research projects and teaching;
  • Be proficient in French (oral and written), in compliance with the ÉTS Language Policy (in French), or demonstrate a willingness to learn French and register for a French program with the support of ÉTS.

This is a tenure-track position. The process and benefits will be determined in accordance with the applicable collective agreement of l’Association des professeurs de l’ÉTS (APÉTS).
