Position Summary:
Faculty members deliver instruction, carry out research, perform service for their respective professions and community, and participate in the management of the University through shared governance. Each member of the faculty has the duty to deliver instruction and maintain a learning environment consistent with the highest standards of the profession. The faculty has a responsibility to set degree requirements, assess when they are met, and establish and maintain curricula that meet professional standards and fulfill the educational goals of the University.

Duties & Responsibilities: Will be responsible for both teaching, research, and service as per University/College requirements. Teaching load of the faculty is normally 12 hours per semester. All faculty members are expected to assume student academic advisement responsibilities in addition to their regular teaching loads.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach core general engineering and mechanical engineering classes in support of our undergraduate (BSME) and our general Master of Science in Engineering (MSEng) programs; establish an externally funded research program; and contribute to departmental, college, and university service. Undergraduate teaching responsibilities will include but are not limited to: 1) in-class lectures in Dynamics, Solid Mechanics, Machine Design, Mechanical Systems Design, 3D Modeling, and related areas; 2) hands-on labs/projects for related courses, including advising Capstone senior design projects. Graduate level teaching may be included based on the applicant’s teaching and research interests.

Arkansas State University is a public multi-campus higher education system and the Jonesboro campus is the main campus and has a diverse student body with an on-campus enrollment about 14,000; through outreach via web-based instruction and the newly established campus in Querétaro, Mexico, the university is making a global impact. The College of Engineering and Computer Science has approximately 540 students in undergraduate programs. The college offers ABET-accredited B.S. Engineering degrees in civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering. The College of Engineering and Computer Science invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position of Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering. This position is a nine-month appointment starting no later than August 16, 2019.

We invite applicants with academic and/or industrial experience in machine design (component and system level), solid mechanics, advanced manufacturing, 3D modeling and other related areas such as material science and automation.

Minimum Qualifications:
Prospective applicants must have an earned Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering and professional registration in mechanical engineering is preferred.
