Photovoltaics and Microelectronics Research Laboratory (PMRL) in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering  at The University of the District of Columbia (UDC) is located in Washington DC and is funded by Department of Energy-Solar Energy Technologies Office(SETO). The PMRL Laboratory focuses on research on  earth-abundant photovoltaics and semiconductor processing, nanofabrication, characterization and simulation of photovoltaics and semiconductor devices.

Position Description

Photovoltaics and Microelectronics Research Laboratory is seeking one PhD student research assistant who is interested in photovoltaics. The project is targeted to develop Efficient and Stable Perovskite Solar Cells. The perovskite solar cell has demonstrated efficiency>25% and is a very promising photovoltaic technology for commercialization. The project will focus on fabrication of perovskite solar cells, optimization of interface to improve efficiency and reliability, characterization of thin-films and solar cells via the use of a range of advanced techniques and investigating reliability of perovskite solar cells. The project will collaborate with world-class neighboring organization-National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Brookhaven National Laboratory, George Washington University and Johns Hopkins University.  The position is for a full-time PhD student and will start at Spring 2023 semester.

We offer

  • You will be paid $19,200/year stipend and Graduate Metro Tuition for two years. Further support depends on funding availability. The principle investigator will continue to apply for funding to support your research.
  • Travel for conferences will be financially supported.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Green Card or US citizenship (Minority students preferred)
  • GPA: 3.0 above on a 4.0 GPA scale
  • Interested in fabrication and characterization of solar cells
  • Background in fabrication and characterization in nanotechnology
  • Self-motivated, committed and curious
