Chief Executive Officer
Tenure-Track/Tenured Faculty Position in VLSI for AI (All Ranks) Division of Electrical & Computer Engineering School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Louisiana State University - Baton Rouge, LA
The Division of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at Louisiana State University (LSU) invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) for Artificial Intelligence with an emphasis on low-power, energy-efficient, and secure architectures for intelligent systems.
As part of LSU ECE's strategic growth in AI hardware, autonomy, digital systems, and industrial innovation, the successful candidate will join a vibrant and expanding program at the state's flagship university.
Position Focus and Research Areas
We seek outstanding candidates whose research explores next-generation VLSI design and architectures that enable AI and machine learning at the edge and beyond. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Low-Power and Energy-Efficient VLSI Design for AI and ML accelerators
- Neuromorphic Computing Architectures
- In-Memory Digital and Analog (ReRAM, etc) Computing
- AI Hardware Security and Supply-Chain Attack Hardening.
- 3D Integration, Heterogeneous and Chiplet-Based Design
EDA and CAD for AI-Driven Circuit and System Design Applicants with strong industrial R&D backgrounds or a record of translating research into silicon prototypes or commercial applications are particularly encouraged to apply.
Qualifications
Assistant Professor
- Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field by the appointment date.
- Applicants who are all but dissertation (ABD) and will complete the Ph.D. by the time of appointment will be considered.
- Demonstrated potential for establishing an independent, externally funded research program in VLSI for AI or related areas.
- Strong potential for high-quality teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Associate Professor
- Ph.D. in a relevant field with at least four years of professional experience beyond the Ph.D.
- A strong record of peer-reviewed publications and sustained external research funding.
- Demonstrated leadership in collaborative or interdisciplinary projects and evidence of effective teaching and graduate student supervision.
- Recognition at the national level for contributions to the field of VLSI, circuits, or AI hardware.
- Commitment to mentoring junior faculty and advancing the division's strategic goals.
Full Professor
- Ph.D. in a relevant discipline with at least eight years of professional experience beyond the Ph.D.
- A distinguished international reputation for scholarly excellence and impact.
- Proven track record of sustained research funding, high-impact publications, and technology transfer or industrial collaboration.
- Demonstrated academic leadership in shaping research programs, mentoring faculty, and advancing education.
- Evidence of significant contributions to professional societies or national initiatives in the field.
Responsibilities
- Develop and sustain a nationally and internationally recognized research program.
- Teach and develop undergraduate and graduate courses in VLSI, circuits, and hardware systems for AI.
- Supervise and mentor graduate (M.S./Ph.D.) and undergraduate students.
- Publish in top-tier journals and conferences (to be specified by the faculty).
- Engage in interdisciplinary collaborations across the College of Engineering and industry partners.
- Contribute to service and leadership at the division, college, university, and professional levels.
About the Division Faculty in the ECE Division are actively engaged in cutting-edge research across power, communications, computing, control systems, and electronics, with six faculty members recognized as NSF CAREER awardees.
