About the Position:

The Department of Systems and Computer Engineering invites applications from qualified candidates for a preliminary appointment in Computer Systems Engineering at the rank of Instructor I, beginning July 1, 2021.

The candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching a wide range of courses in Computer Systems Engineering, including introduction to programming, software design, digital design, embedded/ real- time/ concurrent/ distributed software, computer architecture, and supervise undergraduate projects. We especially seek contributions to the teaching of the interface of hardware and software; e.g., bare- metal programming in C and Assembly (preferably ARM), the software interface with peripheral hardware devices, and device drivers.

Candidates should have a demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and mentoring of undergraduate students. The position provides the opportunity to pursue a career based on excellence in teaching. We will favourably consider applicants with an interest in innovative teaching methods, in collaborative and interdisciplinary approaches to teaching, with experience and an interest in course and curriculum development, with aptitudes for building bridges with community, industry, and government agencies. Candidates are expected to value diversity and inclusivity, and help foster under- represented groups into an engineering career.

Candidates are expected to contribute to our program improvement, including course and curriculum development, accreditation, quality assurance reviews and departmental/university promotion events. About the Academic Unit:

The Department of Systems and Computer Engineering is a research-intensive department and hosts a large and active community of faculty members, instructors, and undergraduate and graduate students. The Department participates in a broad range of undergraduate and graduate programs covering the Electrical and Computer Engineering spectrum. Qualifications:

At the time of appointment, candidates must have earned a Masters, ideally a Ph.D., in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline. Candidates must show membership in a Canadian professional engineering association, or evidence that membership in such an association can be secured according to the accreditation criteria and procedures set by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board. Candidates should demonstrate an aptitude for teaching undergraduate courses, for working effectively with small or large groups of students, and should provide evidence of an interest or ability for course and/or curriculum development. Please also identify any past experiences in supporting equity, diversity and inclusion in your previous institutional environment such as in curriculum development and in supporting diverse students.
