Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Computer Engineering

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Frank R. Seaver College of Science and Engineering at Loyola Marymount University (LMU) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning fall of 2026. With a long history of excellence in electrical engineering, the department has recently expanded to include bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in computer engineering. We seek to hire an innovative faculty member to bolster these new degree programs, with an emphasis on any of the following areas: robotics, embedded systems, applied artificial intelligence.
Faculty in our programs integrate teaching and research along with industry partnerships to educate future engineers that bring about innovation and uphold high standards of ethical and professional conduct. Small class sizes foster an inclusive environment and create a space for innovative teaching and research practices. State-of-the-art laboratory equipment makes possible meaningful hands-on learning and research experiences for our students. Internal funding provides unique opportunities for faculty to mentor graduate and undergraduate students in research.
LMU is located on the west side of Los Angeles (L.A.) overlooking the Pacific Ocean at the heart of Silicon Beach, L.A.'s growing tech and startup hub. LMU is also in the middle of Southern California’s aerospace industry. Position Requirements:
- Academic Qualifications: Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in computer engineering or a closely related field, conferred no later than the position start date of August 15, 2026
- Teaching Commitment: Ability to teach a range of computer engineering and electrical engineering courses on the undergraduate and graduate levels; commitment to excellence in teaching our diverse student population and to foster a sense of belonging and cultivate a climate that supports inclusive excellence
- Research Development: Development of a thriving research program that involves mentoring undergraduate and graduate students through hands-on activities and securing external funding
- Service Participation: Active participation in service activities at the academic, professional, and/or community levels
Preferred Areas of Expertise:
- Robotics: Including but not limited to autonomous systems, robotic control, and human-robot interaction
- Embedded Systems: Design and development of hardware-software systems, IoT applications, and real-time computing
- Applied Artificial Intelligence: AI-driven system design and implementation for computer engineering
