Assistant / Associate Professor of Practice, Mechanical Engineering Technology (NTT)

Responsibilities:
The University of Akron, Department of Mechanical Engineering is seeking applicants for a full-time non-tenure track (NTT) Assistant / Associate Professor of Practice position in our ETAC of ABET accredited Mechanical Engineering Technology program beginning Fall Semester of 2021. The primary focus of this position is teaching and preparing graduates for professional careers. Research is not required. Academic rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The selected candidate will develop, revise and deliver lecture and laboratory courses in Mechanical Engineering Technology at both the associate and baccalaureate levels for day and evening students. Additional duties include updating and maintaining laboratories and equipment, maintaining technical currency, actively participating in University, college, department, and program committee work, assessment/accreditation responsibilities, student recruitment, and other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor of Science in either Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology; a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering OR a closely related Master’s degree; minimum three years of relevant and verifiable industrial experience; relevant teaching or training experience; and outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
Applicants must have a passion for the profession and the ability to teach in a wide variety of mechanical engineering technology courses in at least two of the following areas: 2-D and 3-D CAD, statics, dynamics, kinematics, mechanical design, applied thermal energy, fluid power, materials processing and testing, programmable logic controllers, and manufacturing processes.
Preferred Qualifications:
Professional Engineering License; experience with ETAC of ABET accreditation process; experience with curriculum and program management; and the ability to teach mechanical engineering technology courses in more than two of the following areas: 2-D and 3-D CAD, statics, dynamics, kinematics, mechanical design, applied thermal energy, fluid power, materials processing and testing, programmable logic controllers, and manufacturing processes.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering is the largest in the College of Engineering and Polymer Science and is comprised of four programs: Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, and Automated and Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Technology.
