Professorship (W3) „Automotive Mechatronics“

INSTITUTE OF AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERING | STARTING 01.04.2025
The University of Stuttgart is one of the leading technically oriented universities in Germany in one of Europe’s most vibrant high-tech and industrial areas. The university is a reliable employer, partner for technology transfer and is committed to the interdisciplinary integration of engineering, natural sciences, humanities, and social sciences based on the fundamentals of cutting-edge research at a disciplinary level.

The professorship is linked to the management of the Chair of Automotive Mechatronics at the Institute of Automotive Engineering (IFS) and admission to the board of the Research Institute for Automotive Engineering and Powertrain Systems Stuttgart -FKFS- (a foundation with legal capacity under civil law), which cooperates with the IFS. The latter includes the management of several working groups with research and development tasks.

We are looking for a scientifically internationally recognized personality who will comprehensively represent the design of future software systems and electronic architectures for automated and networked vehicles, including the associated data acquisition and processing, in research and teaching. A key focus will be on integrated, sustainable and user-friendly mobility through intelligent interaction between vehicles, infrastructure and people. In-depth knowledge of vehicle and mobility systems as well as the process chains in vehicle development are essential. Knowledge of diagnostics and testing, simulation, human-machine interaction and data security is desirable.

Management experience and a commitment to cooperate intensively with the chairs of "Automotive Engineering" and "Vehicle Drive Systems", which also belong to the IFS, as well as with colleagues from other chairs at the faculty and university are required. This applies in particular to the topics of "Future mobility, vehicle and drive technologies", "Electronic architectures in vehicles" and "Automated driving".

Success in the acquisition and implementation of innovative development or research projects is desirable.

We are searching for an individual who is distinguished by high-ranking scientific publications or patents with international visibility.

For a qualitative assessment of your academic accomplishments, we kindly ask you to submit a short description of your three most important scientific achievements, which should be no longer than one page in total. Possible successes may include, for example, those in the fields of research, teaching, science and society, knowledge and technology transfer, inventions and patents, software development or spin-offs.

The requirements for employment listed in § 47 and § 50 Baden-Württemberg university law (LHG) apply.

Written applications should be sent in electronic form no later than 5th of May 2024 to the dean of Faculty 7 Engineering Design, Production Engineering and Automotive Engineering dekanat@f07.uni-stuttgart.de, preferably as a single PDF file.
