Clemson University’s Department of Automotive Engineering is searching for outstanding applicants for a tenure-track faculty position, at the Assistant Professor level, related to energy conversion devices, with an emphasis on IC Engines, and advanced powertrain systems.
Research areas of interest include combustion, heat transfer, novel thermodynamic cycles and energy conversion devices, as well as infrastructure level questions, such as the well-to-wheel analysis. Ideal candidates would combine a mix of very advanced experimental research focused on IC engines and powertrains with theoretical and/or computational work. Candidates are expected to establish an internationally-recognized research group and education program around the automotive powertrains, fuels, combustion, energy and environmental impact of transportation.
The position will include a competitive salary and startup package to support the research mission of the Advanced Powertrains Group. Candidates will also interact with existing research groups throughout Clemson University, and participate in interdisciplinary research initiatives.
The Department of Automotive Engineering is a fully integrated tenure-granting graduate department within the College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Science at Clemson University. The department offers MS and PhD degrees in Automotive Engineering, and is partially funded with a total of $36 million in endowments. The Department of Automotive Engineering has graduated 438 MS and 52 PhD students since its inception in 2007, and is located on Clemson’s CU-ICAR innovation campus in Greenville, South Carolina. - A Ph.D. or equivalent in a relevant technical discipline, such as Mechanical Engineering
- A knowledge and experience base in global automotive and heavy-duty technologies with connections to industry
- The qualities of an "entrepreneurial scholar." This means an individual who converts a vision into reality through superior strategic planning and execution skills, while leading the intellectual exploration of new methods related to ICE powertrains, and energy and environmental impact of transportation
- The ability to build a research program, produce scholarly publications and have a strong dedication to undergraduate and graduate level teaching
