About the Department of Engineering and Computer Science:
The Department of Engineering and Computer Science is part of the College of Arts and Sciences, and offers a variety of undergraduate majors, including Mechanical Engineering. All of the engineering programs are ABET accredited. The department's mission is to provide a diverse and supportive Christian community in which we prepare our students to become effective team members and responsible servant-leaders by equipping them with theoretical knowledge and applied skills to create and utilize appropriate solutions in Engineering and Computing disciplines. All programs incorporate a significant hands-on component and include both an internship and a year-long interdisciplinary team senior capstone project.
The Department of Engineering and Computer Science is seeking applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering. The position will start September 2024, and includes a regular nine-month teaching load of about 33 quarter credits, typically including a variety of courses throughout the undergraduate Mechanical Engineering curriculum. The candidate will also advise undergraduates and participate in the life of the department. Tenure-track faculty members are expected to establish and maintain a program of research/scholarship and participate in the life of the College of Arts and Sciences and the University.
Required:
- A strong commitment to undergraduate engineering education
- A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field (ABD candidates will be considered)
- OR an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering with relevant experience
Desired:
- Experience in industry and/or leading engineering team projects
- Evidence of the ability to teach, advise, and/or mentor underrepresented and first-generation college students
- Familiarity with policies, standards, and best practices regarding engineering laboratory and/or workspace safety
- Technical expertise in design, manufacturing, or robotics/control/mechatronics

Salary Range: $80,000-86,000
Faculty salaries at Seattle Pacific University are based on nationally-normed, regionally-adjusted, and discipline-specific data from the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR). Specific salary offers will be determined by level of education and years of relevant experience.
