Title: Teaching Faculty Positions in Construction Engineering and Management
University: University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, IN, United States
Department: Civil & Environmental Engineering & Earth Science (CEEES)
Application Deadline: Open until filled
Position Start Date: Spring or Summer 2021

The University of Notre Dame’s Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering & Earth Sciences (CEEES) invites applications for two non-tenure-track teaching faculty positions which will shape and build our university’s future construction-related course offerings at both departmental and campus-wide levels. The respective responsibilities for each of these endowed positions are as follows:

  • Massman-Beavers Professor of Practice in Heavy Civil Engineering – Development and delivery of new hands-on, laboratory course electives integrated within the ND-CEEES undergraduate civil and environmental engineering curriculum. These courses will expose students to hands-on experiences in surveying, construction, materials, and non-destructive and destructive test methods which will bridge the gap between theory and design. Additional undergraduate and graduate curriculum contributions will also include theory, design, and practice-oriented course offerings particularly aligned with heavy civil construction.
  • Braun Teaching Professor in Construction Engineering and Management – This appointment will be made within the University of Notre Dame’s Civil & Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences (CEEES) department, in partnership with the University’s Fitzgerald Institute for Real Estate. Teaching responsibilities will focus on construction engineering and management (CEM) course development and coverage. Graduate-level CEM course delivery will include the department’s new professional-focused Master of Engineering (MEng) program, possibly leading to a new MEng degree option within the construction management area. This position will also carry non-teaching responsibilities aligned with program management and industry networking for Notre Dame’s new CEM-focused initiatives.

Doctoral degrees in construction engineering and/or management or a closely related discipline are desirable with both positions, as well as a strong commitment to outstanding student teaching and advising. Alternative degree backgrounds may be considered contingent upon outstanding professional career experience. We are looking for faculty members who will actively support and help create a climate of excellence and diversity, and will contribute to the department’s efforts to attract and retain a diverse student body.

Application Instructions: The following Interfolio web links should be used for these respective positions: i.e., Massman-Beavers Professor of Practice apply.interfolio.com/78078; and Braun Teaching Professor apply.interfolio.com/78075. In each case, please provide a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of related teaching experience and interests, and contact information for three references. Candidates are encouraged to apply by 1 December 2020, but applications will be accepted until this position is filled. Information regarding the University of Notre Dame is available at http://www.nd.edu, and specific information about our CEEES department is available at http://ceees.nd.edu.

Background Check: This appointment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check. Applicants will be asked to identify all felony convictions and/or pending felony charges. Felony convictions do not automatically bar an individual from employment. Each case will be examined separately to determine the appropriateness of employment in the particular position. Failure to be forthcoming or dishonesty with respect to felony disclosures can result in the disqualification of a candidate. The full procedure can be viewed at https://facultyhandbook.nd.edu/?id=link-73597

  • The University of Notre Dame seeks to attract, develop, and retain the highest quality faculty, staff and administration. The University is an Equal Opportunity Employer, and is committed to building a culturally diverse workplace. We strongly encourage applications from female and minority candidates and those candidates attracted to a university with a Catholic identity.
