Tenure Track Faculty Positions

The UNC Charlotte Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in the areas of Geotechnical Engineering and Environmental Engineering with an anticipated start date of Fall 2024. Candidates with any of the following areas of expertise are encouraged to apply: (1) Geotechnical Engineering candidates with expertise in geomechanics and deep foundations, aviation geotechnics, energy infrastructure, smart materials and sensors, big data analytics/AI, geo remote sensing and geohazards, sustainable civil infrastructure and lifelines, ground improvements, and/or other emerging areas of geotechnical engineering; and (2) Environmental Engineering candidates with expertise in applying large-scale modeling, AI and machine learning in environmental engineering design and decision-making; public health protection; climate change; environmental risk assessment; sustainability; green and resilient infrastructure, and/or other emerging areas of environmental engineering.

Candidates should be committed to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, development of sponsored research programs, supervision of student research, student mentoring, and academic service. Priority will be given to candidates with an excellent research record as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications, potential for success in extramural funding, and a plan for future research that complements existing department strengths. A Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering (or a related field) is required.

The CEE department (https://cee.charlotte.edu) has approximately 450 undergraduate and 80 graduate students. The Department offers a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering, and a separate B.S. degree in Environmental Engineering. The CEE Department currently includes 25 full time faculty members who are actively engaged in research and teaching in the broad areas of geoenvironmental/geotechnical, environmental and water resources, structures, and transportation engineering. The Department is located in the Energy Production and Infrastructure Center (EPIC) on campus, which has exceptional teaching, laboratory, and research facilities. The mild climate, proximity to the Blue Ridge Mountains, access to east coast beaches, and robust cultural scene make Charlotte, North Carolina a great place to live and work.
