Job Description: 

The Materials Science and Engineering (MS&E) Department within the P.C. Rossin College of Engineering & Applied Science at Lehigh University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or untenured Associate Professor position with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025. Areas of interest include energy, metals, and related topics, with focus on electron microscopy application.  Candidates must have earned a doctorate in Materials Science and Engineering or a directly related field by the date of employment.

The successful candidate in metals/energy/electron microscopy will have a strong background in phase transformations, microstructural evolution, and structure-property relations of metallic systems as pertaining to energy applications.  The successful candidate is also expected to have expertise in electron microscopy and become an extensive user of Lehigh’s electron microscopy facilities. Lehigh maintains one of the most comprehensive electron microscopy facilities in the U.S., with a suite of nine scanning, transmission, and scanning/transmission instruments. The facility also houses the world's highest resolution analytical electron microscope that is custom designed for nanoscale analysis and atomic resolution imaging. Lehigh’s MS&E Department (https://materials.lehigh.edu/) maintains active research in the areas of ceramics, glasses, polymers, electronic materials, biomaterials, metals, modeling/simulation, and electron microscopy. Among the MS&E faculty are fellows of professional societies as well as award-winning professors, including many NSF CAREER award winners. Opportunities also exist to collaborate with researchers from other departments within and outside the engineering college, along with the three Interdisciplinary Research Institutes: namely, the Institutes for Functional Materials and Devices, for Cyber Physical Infrastructure, and for Data, Intelligent Systems and Computation.
