Postdoctoral Researcher position in Digital Twins of Process for Building Construction

Research

The Department of Civil Engineering at the Aalto University is offering a Postdoctoral Researcher position in research on Digital Twins of Process in Construction. The research aims to create a holistic, integrated digital twin model for the construction of buildings, which can be used to model, simulate, compare, and evaluate the performance of processes.  The first objective is to develop an advanced sensing system that can provide automated situational awareness of the construction production, including the status of physical products and processes and supply of construction resources. The second objective is to achieve a digital twin of the construction process based on agent-based modeling and simulation.

Research Group

The Postdoctoral Researcher position is located in the research group of Performance in Building Design and Construction. For more general information of the research and teaching of the Department, go to http://civileng.aalto.fi/en/

Requirements

Applicants must i) have completed (within the past five years) a doctoral degree in a related field, ii) have a strong background in applying computer vision or simulation models in construction. A strong publication record, experience in instructing or supervising doctoral and master students and experience in team building and leadership are benefits in the application. Applicants with experience of new paradigms, such as neurosymbolic reasoning, rather than traditional deep learning -based computer vision methods are preferred for this call. Fluent English is required.

Salary and duration

Aalto University applies the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition to the salary, the contract includes occupational health care benefits. Finland also has a comprehensive social security system. The position is for at least two years, and it should start in October 2023. The position is full-time.

  • Research plan on the selected research theme (mark clearly). If your research interest falls within various themes, specify this and combine these into same document (max three A4 pages)
  • Short statement of your philosophy on instructing researchers as well as of your envisioned role in a multidisciplinary research team (max one A4 page)
  • CV including publications and contact information for 2 referees (max four A4 pages)
  • Summary of the Doctoral Thesis (max one A4 page), and a certified copy of the doctoral degree certificate and its translation, if originals are not in English. (or estimated graduation date if not yet finished).
