Reseach Assistant Professor in Bio-inspired Additive Manufacturing

Penn State Harrisburg's School of Science, Engineering, and Technology (SSET) is accepting applications for a Faculty Research Assistant Professor to start during Spring 2023 semester. This is a Non-tenure Line position. The School of Science, Engineering, and Technology offers 17 degrees in undergraduate and graduate engineering, engineering technology, and science programs as well as a PhD in Engineering Systems.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support faculty research at Penn State Harrisburg.
  • Writing external grant proposals in response to industry and Federal agencies funding opportunities.
  • The selected candidate will work to develop and implement multi-faceted, collaborative, and robust research programs in additive manufacturing with a focus on biomaterials and tissue engineering.
  • Collaborate with faculty at Penn State Harrisburg, and Penn State University Park and work with research centers and institutes at University Park, particularly Materials Research Institute.



Required Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. degree in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biology, or a closely related field is required by the time of appointment.
  • Experience in preparing project reports, presentations, and manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are required, with a demonstrated track record of high-quality, independent research and publication.
  • Ability to work independently.



Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in experimental investigation of microstructure and phase transformations in advanced materials.
  • Experience to train and mentor graduate and/or undergraduate students.
  • Background of biomimetic materials, polymers, ceramics, composites, fracture mechanics, cell culture, and animal study.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated skill in designing, constructing, and testing complex bio-inspired materials systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with analytical instrumentation and simulation.
  • Experience using CAD model software such as SolidWorks.
  • Experience using TEM, SEM, XRD, AFM, mechanical tests, nanoindentations, and Raman.
