Primary Purpose of Position
To conduct research in bio-engineered Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) recapitulated brain organoid and further brain chip to study to elucidate novel mechanisms underpinning human AD. The Postdoc, working independently but in close cooperation and consultation with the Principal Investigator and other Scientists, will perform routine and complex laboratory procedures throughout training period and may develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols. This position will design and perform experiments on vascularized organoids derived from iPSC and further construction of brain chip, including the iPSC-based organoid generation, vascularization and immune cells interaction. Functional analysis of these brain organoids by 3D culture, live cell imaging, ICC, confocal/light sheet imaging, ELISA, flow cytometry RT-PCR, and western blot will also be required.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The FIT BEST lab develop vascularized brain organoids to recapitulate Alzheimer’s disease and study phenotypic expression of AD in terms of 1) tissue chip utilization with engineered extracellular matrix, 2) blood brain barrier dysfunction, 3) overactive inflammatory behavior induced by microglia and circulating immune cells, 4) efficacy of treatments.
Doctorate (PhD) in related field. Works independently on research projects designed by a mentor (typically the PI) within area of specialization. Acquires thorough technical and theoretical knowledge of research project and objectives during one to five (1-5) year post-doctoral appointment.
Candidate must have: (1) demonstrated aptitude to perform experimental protocols and procedures, including detailed data collection, and analysis, operation and maintenance of specialized equipment, (2) Knowledge of safety standards; and (3) Excellent written and oral communication skills.
