Position Description Summary
The College of Engineering and Engineering Technology (CEET) invites applications for an inaugural Director to lead a newly established baccalaureate program in Biomedical Engineering. As a dynamic and innovative leader, the Director will set a vision for the new Biomedical Engineering Program and advance education and curricular structure, enrollment management, expansion of research opportunities, and industrial partnerships. The successful candidate will have a solid record of accomplishments in terms of externally funded research, publication, teaching, and engaging academic leadership. The Director will report to the Dean of CEET and the appointment is expected to be made at the rank of tenured Associate Professor or Professor. This administrative, teaching, and scholarly appointment will begin July 1, 2020. A research start-up package is anticipated for this position.

Position Description: A dynamic and innovative inaugural Director will be responsible for leading and administering the new program in Biomedical Engineering and executing and facilitating all program administrative, financial, and planning functions, including faculty and staff hiring and supervision, workload assignment, tenure and promotion evaluations, regular faculty and staff evaluations, and enforcement of university, college, and departmental policies and procedures. The successful applicant will also develop and enhance industrial contacts and initiatives, facilitate grant and contract activities, be an advocate for the department, oversee enrollment management, advise students, teach undergraduate or graduate courses as needed, and serve as a member of the senior leadership team of the college. In addition, this position will be responsible for establishing and executing a successful pathway to ABET accreditation. There are more than 70 students who currently seek an academic experience in Biomedical Engineering and this position will be critically responsive to the growing educational, project, and research needs of these students.

Required Qualifications:

Successful applicants for the Director position must have an earned doctorate degree in Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related engineering field, and have academic qualifications for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. A distinguished, and proven record in teaching, externally funded research, scholarly publications, and engaging leadership is required. Academic experience showing leadership capabilities with good administrative and communication skills will be required. An understanding of, and involvement in, the ABET accreditation process is required. A demonstrated commitment to equity and a successful working history with diversity is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Successful applicants are preferred to have related teaching and research interests in, but not limited to, advanced biomedical sensors and instrumentation, advanced biomaterials, advanced biomechanics, and/or advanced tissue engineering.
