The School of Engineering of Columbia University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist position in combined physical and machine learning approach for the atmosphere (clouds and convection). The successful candidate will work with Professor Pierre Gentine (https://gentinelab.eee.columbia.edu/), and collaborator Prof. Mike Pritchard (UC Irvine) to develop a new machine-learning based model of convection.
The position will be located primarily in the School of Engineering at Columbia University, in New York City.
Candidates must have experience in physics, environmental sciences, engineering or related fields and have a strong background in statistics and programming. Demonstrated experience with machine learning and/or modeling, as well as in analyzing large and disparate datasets is highly desired.
The postdoc positions are for 2 years, renewable, with an initial appointment for 1 year and continuation pending progress. Gentine’s lab is strongly multicultural and diverse. Applicants from minorities are especially encouraged to apply.
