L’École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) is a rapidly evolving university in engineering and technology located in downtown Montreal. ÉTS offers undergraduate and graduate programs focused on applied engineering as well as state-of-the-art research infrastructure. ÉTS is also home to the Centech, a business incubator, offering support services for researchers wishing to commercialize their research.

Contributing to Quebec's economic and technological development is part of ETS mission. A new campus will be developed in Longueuil, Quebec, close to Montreal. A strategic collaboration with the City of Longueuil, the École nationale d'aérotechnique (ÉNA) and the Centre technologique en aérospatiale (CTA), will enable ÉTS to be part of a dynamic ecosystem of training, research and innovation in aerospace engineering.

Our Aerospace Engineering Department

Our department offers several study programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. These training courses are led by professors who have diverse and complementary expertise, thus promoting the emergence of innovative multidisciplinary approaches. In addition, we actively encourage interdisciplinary collaborations with other departments such as Mechanical Engineering, Software and Computer Engineering, as well as Electrical Engineering, for the realization of projects that are both complex and innovative.

At the heart of our educational approach lies a strong emphasis on practical learning. Our students benefit from concrete projects, simulations, workshops and design challenges that stimulate their creativity and know-how. These projects are not just academic exercises; they represent cutting-edge research relevant to the aerospace industry. We frequently collaborate with government organizations, companies in the aerospace sector and research laboratories, thus giving a concrete and application dimension to our teaching.

Regarding the Position

The Aerospace Engineering department is seeking to fill faculty positions requiring basic training in engineering relating to one of the fields listed below, such as Aeronautical, Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical or Physics Engineering. Eligible candidates must have general knowledge in the field of aerospace standards and regulations.

Your expertise should be oriented towards one or more of the following research fields:

Fields Related to Aerospace Engineering: Aerospace engineering is a broad field encompassing the design, development, testing and production of aircraft, spacecraft and related systems. Aerospace engineering research addresses various challenges to advance technology, improve efficiency and enhance safety.

  • Advanced materials and structures
  • Aerodynamics and fluid dynamics
  • Propulsion systems, including alternative fuels, advanced engine designs and propulsion technologies, including electric and hybrid propulsion
  • Autonomous systems and AI, including intelligent algorithms for autonomous vehicles, improving machine learning applications and human-machine collaboration
  • Human factors and ergonomics
  • Cybersecurity
  • Avionics, embedded systems and aerospace communication systems
  • Air traffic control systems
  • Drone design and aerial data analysis
  • Aerospace project management
  • Air and aerospace regulations and laws
  • Autonomous healthcare and medical care in space

Job Description 

As part of the research team, selected candidates will:

  • Teach courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Mentor graduate students;
  • Develop a research program;
  • Complete grant and funding applications, particularly with provincial, federal or international agencies as well as with industrial partners, municipalities and foundations;
  • Carry out funded, potentially interdisciplinary research projects with local, national and international partners;
  • Ensure the dissemination of your research.

Requirements

  • Hold a Doctorate (PhD) in Engineering or in applied science in a relevant field for this position;
  • Be a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) or be eligible to join the OIQ and undertake the necessary steps to become a member before submitting an application for full professorship;
  • Have experience in conducting research in collaboration with industry or solid experience in industrial R&D;
  • Demonstrate excellent skills related to training highly-qualified personnel through research projects and teaching;
  • Be proficient in French (oral and written), in compliance with the ÉTS Language Policy (in French), or demonstrate a willingness to learn French and enter into a French learning program with the support of ÉTS.
