Successful candidates will hold a PhD in Mechanical, Materials or Process Engineering or a related discipline and have established a publication record. You'll be able to demonstrate experience of teaching to large and small groups of students for whom English is not their first language. Exposure to working in an international organisation is essential. An understanding of China and its culture is an advantage.

Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

You will contribute to the teaching and administration requirements associated with the delivery of the Engineering papers for the University of Waikato joint programme with Hebei University of Science and Technology (HEBUST). You will also maintain and develop original scholarship and research, and undertake professional/community service activities relevant to the profession or discipline.

The position is primarily focused on teaching of the Engineering papers for students in the joint degree. The successful applicant is also expected to carry out research and contribute to HEBUST programme development.

You will provide quality teaching and oversight in lectures, tutorials, computer laboratories and workshops, and undertake paper administration. The role also requires implementing assessment of degree credit work, and may involve training and supervision of other staff.

This position is only available in China, however the appointee may spend some time at the University of Waikato in New Zealand for professional development before starting teaching at HEBUST and there may be further trips as appropriate during the period of employment.

The current salary range for Professional Teaching Fellows will be in the range of CNY300,000 to CNY400,000 and for Lecturers is CNY330,000 to CNY430,000 per year, (approximately $90,000 to $115,00 NZD) dependent on qualifications, skills and experience.

The School of Engineering at the University of Waikato has a joint programme with Hebei University of Science and Technology (HEBUST). Students can complete their study at HEBUST in China and receive a degree from HEBUST or, if they wish, they can undertake part of their programme at the University of Waikato. If they meet the degree regulations of the University of Waikato, they can receive a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Materials Processing. For more information:

A competitive benefits package is on offer for the appointee (and partner and dependent children where relevant) which includes either on campus accommodation or a contribution towards off campus rented accommodation, contributions towards relocation and international school and pre-school tuition fees, payment for work visa, medical insurance costs and one return economy airfare per annum to return to home country.

The appointment will be a foreign expert, and employment compliant with the regulations of the provincial government. These regulations stipulate who is eligible for legal employment as a foreign expert with regard to obtaining work permits and visas.
