Project Scientist and Junior Specialist

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the College of Engineering at the University of California, Davis invites applications from qualified candidates for Project Scientist and Junior Specialist positions.

Project Scientists work under the direction of a faculty principal investigator. The Project Scientist is evaluated for merit and promotion based on evidence of contribution to the research program, authorship in peer-reviewed publications and conference papers, active dissemination of information and other evidence of expertise. The Project Scientist will maintain professional competence and perform university and public service.

  • A Project Scientist position is available in the in the Next Generation Networking and Computing Systems laboratory, led by Professor S. J. Ben Yoo, is focused on understanding how photonic integrated devices can transform and revolutionize computing architectures to enable next generation scalable, energy-efficient and agile computing systems..
  • One or more Project Scientist positions are available in Plasma Physics and Millimeter Wave Techniques, under the direction of Professor Neville Luhmann, addressing topics related to fusion plasma physics, multi-field physics, System-on-Chip diagnostics development, imaging optics design and deployment, and millimeter wave instrument development.


Junior Specialists have a narrow focus in a specialized area and provide technical or specialized planning and execution of a research project. Junior Specialists are required to be actively and significantly involved in publishable research activities. Junior Specialists are also expected to participate in appropriate professional/technical societies or groups and other educational and research organizations as well as review research proposals, journal manuscripts, and publications as applicable.

  • Junior Specialist positions are available in the Next Generation Networking and Computing Systems laboratory, University of California Davis, led by Professor S. J. Ben Yoo.
