The Department of Computer Science at San José State University invites applications for the following areas:
Assistant Professor - Computer Science- 533232 (with a preference for applicants in the fields of Operating Systems, Database Management Systems, Computer Architecture, or related areas), in Fall 2024. The positions will be required to teach a variety of required and elective courses in Computer Science and in Data Science. Anticipated hiring academic year annual salary range: $96,000 - $105,000.

Assistant Professor - Computer Science Education - 533328 - in Fall 2024, in any field of computer science education that enhances an interdisciplinary group of scholars in the Science Education Program who are active in chemistry education research, physics education research, computer science education research, and the learning sciences. Anticipated hiring academic year annual salary range: $96,000 - $105,000.

The Department of Computer Science offers BS and MS in Computer Science and BS in Data Science. We also offer BS in Computer Science and Linguistics (jointly with the Dept. of Linguistics and Language Development, MS in Data Science (jointly with the Dept. of Math/Stat), MS in Bioinformatics, and support BS in Software Engineering (curriculum jointly administrated with the Dept. of Computer Engineering). The faculty members are excellent teacher scholars with rich publication records in the areas of machine learning, data science, information security, mobile networking, social networks, bioinformatics, etc. The Department, including both faculty and students, enjoys rich interaction and collaboration with Silicon Valley. We have received a Best Practice Implementation Grant from the Center for Inclusive Computing to increase the representation of women and under-represented minorities in undergraduate computing.
The Science Education Program consists of a team of dedicated teacher-scholars recognized for their commitment to: 1) the preparation and ongoing support of justice-centered, socially responsive secondary science teachers, 2) the transformation of undergraduate science courses and student learning experiences, and 3) engaging in innovative science education research uniting the College of Science with the Lurie College of Education. An MS degree in Science Education is offered.
