The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor (bme.umich.edu), a joint department between the College of Engineering and the Medical School, is seeking to fill a full time lecturer position. We seek applications from individuals in all areas of biomedical engineering that will contribute to our educational mission, with an emphasis on curricular offerings in undergraduate and graduate level design courses, and management of experiential learning. We are particularly interested in applicants who can:
i) teach and mentor student teams in the BME Design Program,
ii) instruct in one or more core biomedical engineering classes,
iii) contribute broadly to the teaching and educational mission of the Department.
The specific courses taught will depend on expertise and interest. Teaching load is expected to be the equivalent of 4-5 courses per academic year, though teaching load may be offset by other educational service to the BME Design Program. This position will include managerial responsibilities related to the student design facilities in the Biomedical Engineering Department, as well as outreach and fostering of relationships with industry partners. Candidates with demonstrated experience in teaching, pedagogical methods, and experiential learning are preferred.
Required qualifications include a PhD in engineering or design-related discipline, or a BS/MS degree with relevant industry experience, and a demonstrated commitment to teaching and education.
Desired qualifications included a strong motivation to engage students in experiential learning and to mentor students and student teams, including the ability to oversee fabrication activities and facilities. Experience in medical product development and outreach to industry and other educational partners is also desirable. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute, through their teaching and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
