The Russ College of Engineering and Technology’s Department of Civil Engineering at Ohio University invites applications for a tenured or tenure-track position at all ranks with a specialty in structural engineering. Candidates must have an earned doctorate in civil engineering or closely related field by start date of appointment. A professional engineer (P.E.) license or ability to obtain a P.E. license within 5 years of appointment is highly desirable. We are looking for outstanding candidates with demonstrated excellence in research, as well as a keen interest in teaching and a commitment to student success. Departmental support will include initial reduced teaching loads, competitive salary, and generous start-up funds. The appointment is expected to begin Fall 2023.

All candidates with research in structural engineering are welcome to apply. Special consideration will be given to candidates with a record of high-quality research and scholarship in the focus areas of smart structures, machine learning for structural engineering, 3D printing of structures, structure resilience to climate impacts, advanced materials, structural designs utilizing environmentally friendly materials and/or renewable materials, and structures for improving the environment (e.g. wind turbines, solar panel support systems, green roofs, and trees and vegetation incorporated on bridges). The successful candidate is expected to develop an externally-funded research program leading to national and international recognition, teach courses pertaining to structural engineering at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and contribute to the operation and promotion of the department, college, university, and the profession.

The Department of Civil Engineering at Ohio University offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees. At present there are roughly 180 undergraduate students, 65 master’s degree students and 10 PhD students in the civil department. CE employs 10 full-time tenured, tenure-track and instructional faculty. New sponsored research awards in the department have averaged roughly $2M per year over the last five years, and numerous research collaboration opportunities exist within the Ohio Research Institute for Transportation and the Environment (ORITE).
