Haptic Engineering Research Lab at Incheon National University, Songdo International Town, Incheon, Republic of Korea, invites applications for the position of a full-time post-doctoral researcher in either project (1) deformable 3D rendering combined with haptics for medical images (skin or cancer) or (2) exoskeleton robot controls with haptic feedback for rehabilitation or augmented reality.

Description
We are seeking a highly-qualified postdoctoral researcher with interest and skills in
haptics focusing on deformable 3D surface rendering (computer graphics) from medical skin or cancer images towards haptics assisted diagnosis or robotic arm/foot controls with haptic feedback for rehabilitation. Candidates should have earned a doctoral degree in a relevant field (computer graphics-deformable rendering, machine learning or robotics), possess a strong publication record, and have demonstrated strengths in the areas outlined below. A motivated candidate is sought, showing enthusiasm for leading research and capability for independent problem-solving. The anticipated start date is on or after March 1st, 2019. The position is offered on the level of post-doctoral research staff, initially one year with a potential for further extension up to four years.

Requirements for (1) 3D deformable rendering for skin imaging:

  • PhD degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fields
  • Good knowledge in computer graphics (real-time deformable 3D rendering) or computer vision
  • Good knowledge in mesh based rendering (digital 3D geometry)
  • Design and conduct of user studies for evaluation of haptic devices, statistical analysis, and modeling will be a plus
  • Experience in haptic rendering and physical simulations is an advantage
  • Basic knowledge in virtual/augmented reality with HMD is also a plus
  • Machine learning or Depp learning is a SUPER plus
  • Good publication record (SCI/SCIE indexed journals) in relevant fields
  • Strong Knowledge and experience in programming in C/C++
  • Good level in English, both written and spoken (Official Score Preferred)

Requirements for (2) Haptic robot control with biophysical signals:

  • PhD degree in Electrical, Mechanical Engineering or related fields
  • Strong background in biophysical signal (EEG, EMG) processing
  • Strong background in robot controls
  • Good knowledge in Human Machine Interface for rehabilitation
  • Strong Knowledge and experience in programming in C/C++
  • Design and conduct of user studies for evaluation of haptic devices, statistical analysis, and modeling will be a plus
  • Basic knowledge in virtual/augmented reality with HMD is also a plus
  • Machine learning or Depp learning is a SUPER plus
  • Good publication record (SCI/SCIE indexed journals) in relevant fields
  • Good level in English, both written and spoken (Official Score Preferred)

Requirements (Others: e.g., any topics that can be combined with haptics):

  • PhD degree in Electrical, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related fields
  • Strong research background in image processing and machine learning
  • Good knowledge in Human Computer Interface
  • Strong Knowledge and experience in programming in C/C++ and MATLAB
  • Basic knowledge in virtual/augmented reality with HMD is also a plus
  • Machine learning or Depp learning is a SUPER plus
  • Good publication record (SCI/SCIE indexed journals) in relevant fields
  • Good level in English, both written and spoken (Official Score Preferred)
