Faculty, Non-Tenure Track, Engineering Technology Course Content Developer - Professional in Residence



Position Category: Faculty - Non Tenure Track (FT)

Summary:
The Department of Engineering Technology at Utah Valley University invites applications for a full-time expert non-tenure-track faculty member/content developer to work with existing faculty to develop and teach curriculum for a power systems program. Curriculum development will include technical theory and practical application. This position is a one-year temporary position.

Workload will be assigned by the department chair with a flexible schedule as agreed upon between the department chair and the successful candidate.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with a BS degree in electrical engineering with a focus in power systems.
  • 10+ years Industry experience working in power systems and / or protective relaying (i.e., utility, engineering design firm, equipment manufacturer, testing company, etc.).
  • Experience developing and or teaching training curriculum for industry or academia.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Expertise in power system theory including but not limited to load flow, fault analysis, electric machines, arc-flash, protective relaying , generation, transmission, and distribution systems.
  • Experience modeling power systems utilizing Aspen-Oneliner, Etap, SKM, Power World, ATP (EMTP) or other relevant industry software.
  • Expertise in symmetrical components and analyzing event reports in microprocessor based protective relays.
  • Fundamental understanding of electrical mechanical protective relays.
  • Knowledge of power electronics and converters, renewables, HVDC and power quality.
  • Knowledge of power system automation, such as distribution reclosers.
  • Fundamental knowledge of NEC code and electrical safety standards.
  • Knowledge and a strong commitment to teaching excellence and student success.
  • Effective human relations skills and communication techniques.
  • Ability to work effectively with people.
  • Extensive knowledge of student management, motivation, and evaluation.
  • Ability to plan measurable objectives, prepare instructional materials, and follow an approved curriculum.
  • Ability to assess student work and maintain and submit accurate and current plans, reports, and records involving student accountability, attendance, and performance.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with a diverse student body and faculty.
  • Ability to apply multimedia hardware/software in classroom teaching.



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with a Masters degree in electrical engineering with a focus in power systems.
  • Testing relays utilizing industry related test sets, such as Doble or other relevant manufacturers.
  • Experience with substation communication ,such as modbus, DNP3, and GOOSE messaging.



Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift 25 lbs. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Ability to communicate and speak clearly.
