Title for position: Assistant/Associate Professor-Instructional Track

The University of Rochester’s Department of Mechanical Engineering seeks to hire an outstanding instructional faculty member. The position will be at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor on the Instructional Track. Applicants should have demonstrated involvement in undergraduate instruction and will be expected to be the primary instructor in foundational undergraduate courses and to work alongside other instructors in upperlevel undergraduate courses broadly including mechanical design, laboratory methods, structural FEA and steady state CFD using industry tools, and manufacturing. This faculty position includes responsibilities primarily in undergraduate instruction with opportunities in graduate instruction. Collaborative and independent research is possible, but not the primary responsibility. The individual will also serve on various departmental committees as well as advise undergraduates. Preference will be given to those applicants with experience running undergraduate laboratories that include fabrication and experimentation, or related internship/industry experience.

Candidates should hold a PhD (or equivalent) degree by July 1, 2025 in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field. Applicants should submit 1) a cover letter, 2) CV, 3) a detailed statement of teaching philosophy, 4) a statement discussing the ways in which your experiences will shape your pursuits as a member of our faculty and help you add to the University's core values of Meliora (ever better), 5) up to three sample syllabi of courses where you have been involved in instruction, or syllabi that you have designed for courses that you would like to teach, and 6) contact information of three referees/references. The cover letter and CV should highlight your teaching and direct student or team mentoring experience. With course syllabi, please include your level of responsibility for instruction and course development. For course syllabi that you have designed, include ideas for any student projects that may be relevant. Two of the three references should be familiar with your teaching experiences.
