The School of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University is seeking applications for a post-doctoral research associate in the areas of Dynamics and Vibration, Solid Mechanics, and/or Energetic Materials (inclusive of propellants, pyrotechnics, and explosives). The specific appointment will be with Professor Jeff Rhoads. The research associate will work on the thermomechanical characterization of energetic materials and associated mock materials, which have utility in national defense and security applications.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in a closely related engineering discipline (e.g. mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or material science). The research associate must also have excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as very good organizational skills. Leadership and mentoring skills are essential, as is the ability to work independently when necessary. Other important qualifications include:
- General skills related to data acquisition and signal processing;
- Familiarity with structural dynamics test methodologies, including modal analysis, laser Doppler vibrometry, and infrared thermography; and
- Experience with the modeling of continuous dynamical systems.
