Project overview: The technological revolution in the energy sector is producing large volumes of data with valuable impact in the business and functional processes of system operators, generation companies and grid users. The research fellow will develop innovative data-driven techniques (e.g., reinforcement learning) for different optimization problems (e.g., energy efficiency) and join a multidisciplinary team referenced internationally for its high expertise in energy analytics, within the context of smart grids.
Objectives: The tasks involve the development of algorithms for load and storage device management by applying optimization methods. Specifically, the following objectives should be accomplished: Conceptualize, develop and implement innovative computational intelligence algorithms Publish papers in international conferences and journals Promote the transition to a distributed intelligence paradigm
Academic Qualifications: Master degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Operations Research or similar
Minimum profile required: Advance knowledge in machine learning Advance knowledge in programming (e.g., Python) Fluent in English (spoken and written)
Preference factors: Exp. with energy systems related problems Exp. with optimization techniques (mathematical, meta-heuristics or data-driven) Exp.with TensorFlow or PyTorch
Funding Entity: Funded by National Funds through FCT – Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P.,in the scope of the project UID/EEA/50014/2019
Type of contract: Fixed contract
The hiring shall be governed by what is stipulated in the legislation in force regarding fixed individual employment contracts, as well as by the internal rules of INESC TEC, considering the regulations on the funding of R&D units for 2015-2020.
