The New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (NMT) invites applications for a tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor position in the Department of Mechanical Engineering with appointment to begin in August 2024. Required qualifications include: (1) A PhD. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field at the time of appointment. Preference will be given to candidates with a background in mechatronics, robotics, and controls, but candidates with research interests in any field that aligns with department focus areas will be considered. (2) Ability to establish an independent, externally funded, and collaborative research program supporting graduate and undergraduate students at a small institution; (3) Ability to teach disciplinary courses at the graduate and undergraduate level; and (4) Ability to support student academic success by engaging and encouraging students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds. Salary and rank are commensurate with experience and qualifications aligned with the details in NMT’s Policy and Procedure for Appointment, Promotion & Tenure.
New Mexico Tech specializes in science and engineering education and research and has an enrollment of approximately 1050 undergraduate and 450 graduate students. NMT’s Department of Mechanical Engineering is a leading department on campus, with strengths across the sub-disciplines of Control/Robotics/Mechatronics, Explosives/Energetic Materials, High-Strain Rate Dynamics/Extreme Dynamics, Solid/Fluid/Thermal Sciences, and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. In addition to 13 tenured/tenure-track faculty and instructors, many researchers at nearby national labs (e.g., Sandia National Labs, Los Alamos National Lab, etc.) are adjunct faculty in the department. Students at all levels ranging from BS to PhD participate in research.
