SUMMARY:

The American University of Iraq - Baghdad (AUIB) is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to serve as the Dean of the College of Engineering. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing visionary leadership, strategic direction, and academic excellence within the College of Engineering. The Dean will play a pivotal role in fostering a culture of innovation, research, and academic rigor while actively contributing to the growth and success of the institution. Breadth and Depth of academic experience in the International academic domain is a plus.  

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary. The Dean reports to the Provost and is responsible for advancing the College and University Mission by providing leadership to the following activities:

Leadership and Administration:

    • Provide visionary leadership for the College of Engineering, aligning academic goals with the overall mission and strategic plan of AUIB.
    • Oversee the day-to-day operations, budgetary matters, and administrative functions of the College.
    • Enrich, maintain, and expand the relationship that AUIB has with Lawrence Technological University.

Academic Excellence:

    • Promote and maintain high academic standards, fostering a culture of excellence in teaching, research, and service.
    • Develop and implement innovative academic programs that meet the evolving needs of the engineering industry.

ABET Accreditation:

    • Demonstrate expertise and experience in seeking or maintaining ABET accreditation through self-study and site visits.
    • Ensure continuous improvement of academic programs to meet ABET standards and criteria.

Enrollment Growth:

    • Develop and execute strategies to enhance student enrollment in engineering programs.
    • Collaborate with the admissions team to market engineering programs effectively to attract a diverse and qualified student body.

Research and Innovation:

    • Foster a culture of research and innovation within the College, encouraging faculty and students to engage in meaningful research projects.
    • Seek external funding opportunities and partnerships to support research initiatives.

Faculty Development:

    • Recruit, mentor, and retain a diverse and qualified faculty.
    • Support faculty in professional development, research, and pedagogical innovation.

Community Engagement:

    • Cultivate relationships with industry partners, government agencies, and the broader community to enhance opportunities for internships, cooperative education, and collaborative research.

Student Success:

    • Implement initiatives that promote student success, including academic support services, career development, and experiential learning opportunities.

Financial Management:

    • Manage the financial resources of the College efficiently, ensuring the responsible allocation of funds to support academic and operational needs.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A Ph.D. in Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Proven experience in academic leadership, preferably as a dean or in a similar administrative capacity.
  • Demonstrated experience in seeking or maintaining ABET accreditation.
  • Strong commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and student success.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders.
