Job Description

The Complex Engineering Systems Lab in the School of Systems and Enterprises at Stevens Institute of Technology invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position in the general area of systems engineering, engineering design, and complexity science, with application to the design of complex engineering systems and/or space systems. The specific subjects of interest include (1) engineering design under extreme environment or at extreme scale, (2) technology evolution in complex engineering systems, (3) human-system integration in isolated, confined, and extreme (ICE) environments (e.g., in space exploration).

This is a full-time position available immediately and will be renewed annually dependent on performance and funding.

Responsibilities will depend on the projects and may include the following primary tasks:

  • study and establish fundamental design theories for complex engineering systems, such as empirical or theoretical methods for complex system representation, evolvement, and dynamics;
  • search and collect data from scientific literature to support the design and demonstration of the proposed methods and procedures;
  • participate in preparation of reports, conference papers, and journal articles;
  • and appropriately involve and mentor graduate/undergraduate students in research related activities; write and present research/study status reports for projects and managing regular status updates in coordination with the program managers;

 

Qualifications

Eligible candidates must hold an earned doctoral degree and a record of published research in industrial & systems engineering, aerospace engineering or a related field with a demonstrated capability for publishing innovative research. Experience and interest in working with complexity science, system dynamics, and statistics is preferred.  Demonstrated ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team in developing innovative approaches to practical problems and executing cooperative, multidisciplinary research is required.
