Position Summary

The Department of Electrical Engineering (EE) at the University at Buffalo (UB), The State University of New York (SUNY), invites candidates to apply for an Assistant Professor faculty position as a Simons Empire Faculty Fellow. The successful candidate is expected to build a strong research and educational program that exemplifies a commitment towards team research, generates impactful research publications, attracts significant public and private research funding, and that demonstrates a dedication to effective teaching.

Research topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
    • Quantum sensing based upon different physical realizations of entangled states
    • Next-generation atomic clocks
    • Quantum magnetometry
    • Gravitational and inertial sensing
    • Quantum sensors for biomedical applications
    • Integration and miniaturization of quantum devices and circuits
    • Error correction and noise mitigation
    • Fundamental physics tests

 


The School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) has strong professional development and career mentoring programs which will immediately provide the successful candidate with a supportive environment. This candidate will also benefit from collaboration with existing faculty across the College of Arts and Sciences and SEAS with established expertise in Quantum Information Science and Technology (QIST).

About the Department
The EE department has vibrant research programs in electronics, optics and photonics, communications, networking, signal processing and energy systems. Particular areas of excellence include 2D materials and devices, widebandgap and ultrawidebandgap devices, nanoelectronic, nanophotonic materials and devices, terahertz electronics and communications, wireless communications, cognitive radio and dynamic spectrum access, Internet of Things, big data and machine learning, smart grids and power electronics. Interdisciplinary work within this environment is strongly supported and encouraged. EE is one of nine departments in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, which is committed to research innovation, student support, and a culture of equity and inclusion for students, staff, and faculty. Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have a doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related field. Ph.D. must be completed by start of appointment, or evidence presented that all requirements for degree conferral have been met.
