The Biomedical Engineering (BME) Department is a unique program that bridges the School of Medicine and College of Arts and Sciences at the University of North Carolina (UNC) and the College of Engineering at NC State University. Furthermore, the resources of the UNC-NC State Rehabilitation Engineering Core (http://rec.bme.unc.edu/), Human Movement Science Program at UNC (http://hmsc.unc.edu), NSF ERC ASSIST Center at NC State, and NC State College of Veterinary Medicine provide powerful opportunities for Rehabilitation Engineering faculty to develop multidisciplinary and translational collaborations.

Our mission is to improve human quality of life, personal and work environments, and rehabilitation products and processes through careful study, analysis, research, and design of innovative technologies to benefit the people of North Carolina, the nation, and the world.

This position is for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor in all areas related to Biomedical Engineering.

Biomedical Engineering is a supportive and highly collaborative environment. Our mission is to improve human quality of life through careful study, analysis, research, and design of innovative technologies to benefit the people of North Carolina and others whom we serve.

We seek outstanding candidates conducting research in any area of Biomedical Engineering, especially those that complement the department’s current strengths in Biomedical Microdevices, Rehabilitation Engineering, Biomedical Imaging, Pharmacoengineering, and Regenerative Medicine.

Successful candidates will have already established a highly competitive independent research program or will have demonstrated the clear potential to do so. Candidates must exhibit strong capacity for interdisciplinary collaboration with engineering faculty, basic science researchers, and/or clinical investigators. Candidates whose research demonstrates a clear pathway to commercialization and/or translation in human clinical populations will be viewed favorably.

The successful candidate will have a primary appointment at NC State University, with tenure home in the College of Engineering, and will have access to resources at both UNC-CH and NC State. The candidate’s laboratory will be in BME’s home in Engineering Building 3 on NC State’s Centennial Campus, housed in the center of the College of Engineering.

Qualified candidates should have a doctoral degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related areas, and have a track-record of excellence in scholarly activity since degree completion.
Scholarly activity is considered to include publishing research outcomes in refereed manuscripts, presenting research outcomes at scientific symposia, securing competitive funding to support research, obtaining patents to protect intellectual property, and leading fruitful interdisciplinary collaboration.
