About the Department/College

The College of Engineering, Informatics, and Applied Sciences (CEIAS) combines interdisciplinary scholarship and technological innovation with distinctive and forward-looking academic programs to support economic and societal vitality and entrepreneurship while preparing students for professional opportunities of the future. CEIAS is home to two departments and one school that offer graduate and undergraduate programs that include Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Construction Management, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Informatics, and Immersive Media and Games.

About the Position

CEIAS will launch a new degree in Engineering Technology (ET) in Fall 2024, which intends to be more flexible than our existing engineering programs. The ET program was designed from the beginning to support strong pipelines with Arizona community colleges and to offer coursework in modalities responsive to the needs of both traditional and non-traditional students. As a new faculty member in this program, you will help launch this exciting new program.

Teaching assignments for this position will span both lower- and upper-division undergraduate classes and laboratories related to engineering technology. The successful candidate should be an engineering generalist but expertise related to applied mechanical engineering and advanced manufacturing is especially desirable. Student mentoring and advising, participation in department-level service, and course and program level assessment activities for accreditation will also be required. This is a 9 month non-tenure-track position. Candidates must hold a Masters or PhD degree as described in the minimum qualifications by the time of appointment.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Teaching and Student Related Activities: Developing curriculum and providing instruction in content related to engineering and engineering technology in multiple modalities that supports student engagement, learning, and success.
  • Service: Serve on program, department, college and university committees; advise and mentor students in the program; support the launch of the program through recruitment activities and engaging with university partners; and other activities to support the program as assigned.

This position is an on-site position which requires the incumbent to complete their work primarily at an NAU site, campus, or facility with or without accommodation. Opportunities for remote work are rare.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned Bachelors degree in an Engineering or Engineering Technology program
  • For Lecturer rank: earned Masters degree in an Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Engineering Education program.
  • For Teaching Professor rank: earned PhD in an Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Engineering Education program.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated expertise and scholarship in engineering technology, applied mechanical engineering, advanced manufacturing, or a related field.
  • Industry experience related to engineering technology, applied mechanical engineering, advanced manufacturing, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated excellence in instructional design and effective pedagogy.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience effectively working with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds and underrepresented communities.

If a new employee chooses the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) retirement option, participation in the ASRS Plan (and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it) will begin on the first of the pay period following 183 days of employment. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP; an alternative to the ASRS plan) will begin to participate on the first day of the pay period following election.
