Multiple fully funded postdoctoral researcher positions are available at Institute of Microelectronics, Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, under the supervision of Prof. Leibo Liu. Successful applicants for the positions will join a highly motivated multidisciplinary team with sustained funding from government and industry. The research area of these positions is generally related to the development and application of hardware security techniques. There are three alternative research topics: (1) homomorphic encryption hardware design; (2) physical attack countermeasure design and application; (3) high efficiency hardware circuit and architecture design for symmetric/ asymmetric ciphers.
Applicants for postdoc positions should have a Ph.D. degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Microelectronic Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other relevant disciplines. Applicants could choose the most relevant research topic from three options. For each research topic, the required skills are as follows:
(1) Homomorphic encryption hardware design: Good mathematical knowledge on homomorphic encryption algorithms and schemes; Be familiar with other existing encryption schemes, including symmetric/asymmetric encryption schemes. Experience of developing hardware circuits and systems including HDL design and verification is a plus.
(2) Physical attack countermeasure design and application: Good knowledge on physical attack methods and countermeasures including power attacks, electromagnetic attacks, fault attacks, physical unclonable functions, etc.; Experienced in data analysis, post-processing; Programming ability of using programming language, such as C, C++, MATLAB, etc. Experience of physical attack countermeasure design and verification for very large scale cryptographic processors is a plus.
(3) High efficiency hardware circuit and architecture design for symmetric/asymmetric ciphers: Good knowledge on symmetric and asymmetric encryption algorithms and schemes; Experienced in developing hardware circuits and systems including HDL design and verification. Experience of optimizing hardware circuits and systems for high energy efficiency (throughput/power) or area efficiency (throughput/area) is a plus.
Successful candidates are expected to fulfill the requirement of one of the above three research topics. She/he should be able to conduct independent research with minimal supervision and high self-motivation, publish technical papers in international journals, and present their research work in international conferences. Applicants with good verbal and written English skills are required.
Interested applicants should send a latest CV with a publication list, a research statement describing how the applicant fits in the announced position (mainly how strongly related his/her background is to the above topics), and contact information (including name, affiliation, title, phone number, email address and relationship with the applicant) of at least two referees (one has to be the applicant’s PhD supervisor) to Dr. Hanning Wang (email@example.com). Please make sure to use "Application for Postdoctoral Researcher position" as the email title. Review of applicants will begin immediately and continue until the positions are filled.
The regular term for a postdoctoral researcher is two years with a possible extension of a third year. The starting salary is around $24,000-$30,000 annually depending on experience and qualifications. Extra year-end bonus will be provided based on publications, responsibilities and performance with up to $40,000. Candidates are also eligible for applying merit-based "Tsinghua University Postdoctoral Support Program" with an annual subsidy ranging from $4,300-$7,200 (http://postdoctor.tsinghua.edu.cn/info/qhzcjh/1096). Postdoctoral researchers could apply for China Postdoctoral Science Foundation with up to $22,000 to support the research (http://jj.chinapostdoctor.org.cn/, in Chinese). Tsinghua University helps postdoctoral researchers with housing, insurance and arrangement of children following relevant policies (http://postdoctor.tsinghua.edu.cn, in Chinese).
